Here you can find the explanation of the several words that are used in The world of darkness by the vampires.
The Embrace:The proces that a individual must go through to become a Vampire. The procedure is simple, The vampire who changes a human must drain his or her victim complelty dry and then donate two or three drops of her own blood to the victim by letting it drip into the victim's mouth, this procedure can be completed as long as the dead body is still warm.
The Hunt: If a vampire has broken one of the Traditions (see: Traditions) A Prince can call a bloodhunt on that person. This person is then hunted down by all who follows the Prince's rulement, all who help the hunted will be punished by death. If the person manages to escape outside the Prince's city and stay's away for a year and a day, he is freed from his Bloodhunt.
The Prince: The Prince is the ruler of the City (in this case New Orleans) and is theoriticly the strongest vampire in that city, He has his hands on everything(Police, Hospitals,...).he can be challenged by another vampire for the rulership of the City, Beware, for it is a fight to the death.
A Sire: A sire is the vampire who sired (made into a vampire) another person, the Sire is responsible for the newly made vampire and must guide him through his new immortal life.
The Jyhad: The jyhad is an ancient story about the Antediluvians coming back to the world and killing all of their Childer to gain their power and rule the world.
Antediluvians: The Third Generation of Vampires, it is said they posses godlike powers and are unstoppable when they would awake from their slumber.
Methuselahs: If Antediluvians would be gods, they would be the Demi-Gods, they are the Fourth Generation.
Elders: Vampires who are from the Sixth to Eight Generation and are more then 500 years old can be called Elders and are the greatest threat to the Prince's rulership because they have the most potential to overpower the Prince. With the influence they have created throughout the ages they try to stop younger vampires like Ancillae to gain power in the Vampiric politics of the city.
Ancillae: Vampires who have only existed for a couple of hundred yearsand are considered young vampires to other vampires.
Neonates: Neonates are vampires who don't even exist for a hundred years, they are vampires who are just relieved from their Sire's command.
Fledglings: Vampires who are just turned and are still under the guard of their Sire, they can only become a Neonate if their Sire thinks they are ready and are given permission by the Prince.
Generation: The Distance between a vampire and Caine, someone from the sixth generation is a relatively strong vampire because he or she is only removed six generations from Caine. There are 15 generations in total already but every generation grows weaker and weaker.
Haven: The place a Vampire stays by the day to hide for the sun.
The Primogen: The Primogen are a group of 13 Vampires, each representing their clan and stand directly beneath the Prince, they serve as a council to the prince advising him and such.
The Sherrif: A vampire chosen by the Prince and approved by the Primogen, as the name explains his job is to keep the order on the streets and bring accused before the prince. He can select deputies but they have to be approved by the Prince.
Elysium: A place of absolute peace, there can be no fighting here, not even a dispute, Vampires come here to talk and relax, if this rule is broken it is punished by death. an Elysium can vary from a normal vampire bar to a mansion with luxuary to a bunker with nothing but chairs or beds.
The Harpies: The social managers of the Elysium, they travel in gossip and social maneuvering, they can convince the Prince to call a bloodhunt against someone or save someone's neck, they are chosen by the Primogen.
The Whip: A vampire that accompanies the Elders, they see to it that everything happens fairly but they can be bribed.
The Seneschal: A vampire who is second-in-charge of the city, he works as a replacement for the Prince if he's absent and as an advisor, they can take decisions for the city although they have to be approved by the Prince.
The Keeper of Elysium: As the name says this is a Vampire who organizes things in Elysium (like a vampire band performing or a toreador revealing a new masterpiece) and keeps the peace within it.
The Scourge: The scourge are a group of Vampires who suveille the border of the Prince's domain.
Caitiff: The Caitiff are Vampires without a clan, they have been turned but outcasted by the normal vampires.
Rötschreck:Also called the Red Fear, this is what all vampires fear, it comes when a vampire lost a lot of blood, he becomes crazy and then he becomes a even more dangerous predator, A vampire under the influence of the Red Fear is very dangerous and twice as strong as an elder although it has great fear of even the smallest light and doesn't think rationally anymore.
Ghoul: A ghoul is a human who drinks the blood of a vampire so that he gains some of their powers but it has a price. The person who drinks of a vampire's blood (death or alive, vampire or no vampire) becomes fully pledged to him or her, he would even kill his own family if that would please his vampiric master.
The Beast: The Beast is what a vampire makes probably the most feared creature of the night, the Beast comes up when a Vampire has lost a lot of blood and goes into a frenzy, he/she kills everyone he/she comes across, even family or close ones.
